Apple Sensory Cards

Apple Sensory Cards

I learned about this idea for Apple Sensory Cards from Alison over at Oopsey Daisy where she shares it in her A is for Apples Mommy School packet. To make the cards I first printed out four copies of the apple template she includes in the packet. I printed them out on white cardstock & then used markers to color them in. I used red, green & yellow markers, because, well my red marker was drying out, but I think the different colors adds interest & reflects the variety of colors found in apples. You could also save time by printing the templates out on colored cardstock. I then cut the apples out & laminated them to make them sturdier & long-lasting. Then I added the textured squares using a little hot glue in the four corners. The textures I am focusing on are soft, rough, bumpy & smooth.

soft apple

For soft I used a scrap of red velour, but fleece, velvet or any other soft material would work well too.

rough apple

To demonstrate the rough texture I used a piece of sandpaper. I painted the sandpaper with red acrylic paint to match the red apple. This is not necessary but I think it adds a nice touch.

green apple

For the bumpy texture I used a square of bubble wrap!
And for smooth I didn’t add anything & left the laminated apple template as is.

yellow apple

These cards would be an easy way to introduce your baby to different textures, as well as colors and new vocabulary.  Explore the scratchy, rough sand paper, put his cheek to the soft velour, and touch the bumpy bubble wrap.

Did you enjoy this post? It is one of my very first ones and recently revamped for more appeal, hopefully! Please follow Stir the Wonder on Facebook and check out my Apple Theme board on Pinterest!

Very cute idea! I am positive that the bubble wrap wouldn’t last long around here though 😉

    Pinned it too!

Thanks Dyan! The bubble wrap didn’t last here either.
