Caden has recently really gotten into watching the popular cartoon The Octonauts. This show is entertaining for young children and educational too! The other day while browsing the children’s shelves at the library, I came across some Octonaut books! We were so excited to find them, Caden couldn’t wait to read them! We read one of the three we borrowed in the car before we drove home!
We enjoy these books so much I’m thinking about adding them to our home library. I looked them up on Amazon to add to our wish list and imagine my surprise when I learned these six original books by MEOMI were what inspired the cartoon! I had no idea, I’ve never heard of the Octonauts before, besides my limited knowledge of the show! I thought the show came out first!
Now, if you know how books inspired by children’s cartoons are (not that good) you will be surprised by these books too! They are really well written stories with awesome illustrations! Caden’s favorite of the three we borrowed is The Octonauts & the Sea of Shade. This is why I’ve chosen this book for my first Picture Book of the Day post.

The Octonauts and the Sea of Shade is one of the six original books written by MEOMI that inspired the popular children’s cartoon. This is Caden’s favorite Octonaut book, we’ve read it several times in the couple of weeks we’ve had it on loan from the library. In this book the crew goes on an adventure to the Sea of Shade to solve the mystery of the missing shadows and convince the Shade King to allow the shadows to return to the outside world.
