Art & Crafts Book Activities Christmas

Curious George Christmas Ornament Craft

Curious George Christmas Ornament 1

I’ve always wanted to do a Christmas book countdown with Caden during the holiday season, but it is too overwhelming for me to plan and do 24 Christmas book activities, along with planning a birthday party, Christmas shopping, wrapping presents, decorating the house etc. So this year I am participating in a Story Book Advent hosted by Rainy Day Mum with 30+ other bloggers! Phew, that really takes the pressure off! Each day we will be sharing some great Christmas books and a fun activity to go along with it! You can read more about it by clicking the image below! We love reading Curious George books all year-round! But during the holiday season we get to read Merry Christmas, Curious George by H.A. and Margaret Rey! In this adorable story, George gets lost at a Christmas tree farm in the hustle and bustle of the holiday season and ends up at a children’s hospital where he entertains the kids and decorates their Christmas Tree!

Our Curious George Christmas Ornament is an adorable addition to our Christmas tree! And every year when we pull it out we will be reminded of the memories we have of reading this story and making our ornament together! You can make your own adorable ornament too with a few supplies.

Supplies

  • 3″ Styrofoam ball (1)
  • 1″ Styrofoam ball (1)
  • Brown paint
  • Tan felt
  • Red felt
  • Pipe Cleaners
  • Small White pom-poms
  • Googly Eyes
  • Black Fine Tip Sharpie
  • Pink Paint Marker
  • Hot Glue Gun & Glue Sticks

I cut the small styrofoam ball in half and they became George’s ears! I used small pieces of pipe cleaners, about 1 inch long, to attach the half-spheres to the large styrofoam ball. Then it was time to paint the whole thing brown! I used a skinny wooden craft stick (Thanks Craft Project Ideas for the craft supplies!) to make it easier to paint by sticking one end into the bottom of the ball and the other end in a block of styrofoam.

After the paint dried, I cut a face shape out of tan felt and glued it on with craft glue. Then I glued on the googly eyes. I used a fine tip black permanent marker and an oil-based pink paint marker to draw on George’s face and then I used a hot glue gun to attach the Santa hat. I wanted to find a store-bought small Santa hat to add on but couldn’t find on so I used this tutorial to make my own on a smaller scale. I used small white pom-poms to trim the edge of the Santa hat and poked a pipe cleaner into the top of the styrofoam ball to create a hook to hang the ornament on the tree.

[…] As I connect with more and more bloggers around the world I realised that there are some characters that are almost “national treasures” and Curious George is one that many adults and children hold dear. In the UK he’s a recent import through Disney Junior and I hadn’t heard of him until then but Curious George is a character and the book Merry Christmas Curious George is adorable. George gets lost in a Christmas Tree Farm and finds himself at a hospital for Children where he decorates the tree and entertains them. As part of the Story Book Advent Stir the Wonder brings alive the book with a Christmas Curious George Ornament. […]
