Fine Motor Tot School

Fine Motor: Hammering

Fine Motor: Hammering with golf tees is the final post in my Tools unit series.  Fine motor activities are important for strengthen hand muscles and hand-eye coordination. Both of which are needed for handwriting down the road.

This is a really a simple activity. All you need is a toy hammer, some old golf tees and an empty egg carton. I poked the holes into the egg carton ahead of time, but for an older child I would just let them at it.

Caden really enjoyed this activity and went back to it quite a few times over the week.

After a while Caden started to poke the golf tees in with his fingers and removed the tees from the egg carton. But that’s okay, it is still working his fine motor muscles.

I first learned about this activity from Sugar Aunts or What’s Fun Today? I can’t exactly remember. Variations of this activity can be done with styrofoam blocks or even play dough.

We had such a good time learning with and about tools! Be sure to check out the other posts in the Tools unit series:

Finding golf tees was a little tricky for us too! I ended up finding some old tees at my parents house!
