MovingKids copy

Since we are preparing to move, I’ve been doing a lot of reading around the web about moving with kids so I thought I’d share some helpful blog posts from others who have been there, done that.

 Tips & Advice

  • Kristi from Creative Connections for Kids shares 6 tips to help kids through the transition of moving in her post We’re Moving: Tips to Help Your Kids. Along with more advice from fellow bloggers and links to a few more blog posts!
  • Andie Jaye from Crayon Freckles shares on Carrots are Orange 10 Tips for Helping Children Prepare for a Move. She includes a couple of activities to help kids remember their old house and some books to read with your children to prepare them for the transition.
  • Marnie of Carrots are Orange writes about her recent moving experience and advises parents to embrace spontaneous play and learning as you are packing and unpacking in her post Surviving a Move {Spontaneous Play & Learning}.

Activities for Kids

  • Laura from PlayDrMom shares activities you can do with your kids to prepare them for the changes that comes with moving in her post Preparing for a Move.
  • Melissa of Green Owl Art helped her preschool aged daughter prepare for a move by creating cute stationary to give to her friends to help them keep in touch in her post Good-bye Stationary for Friends. Melissa and her daughter also created a Photo Box Craft to find comfort when she is missing her family and friends.
  • There are also many books out there you can read to your children to help explain what moving is or how to cope with sad feeling of missing your friends, family and other familiar places like home or school. I put together a list of 10 Books about Moving for Toddlers and Preschoolers, including one for parents to help with the transition. And Allison of No Time for Flash Cards created a list of Books About Moving for kids a bit older.
