Happy Fine Motor Friday! It’s good for toddlers and preschoolers to do a variety of fine motor activities. Having different activities help work different fine motor muscles and hand coordination which is necessary for handwriting. Fine Motor Fridays is all about giving you a bunch of ideas to do with your little ones! Be sure to check out activities from our co-hosts at the end of this post!
Ever wonder what to do with all that dried up play dough? Well have I got a fun idea for you! This week for Fine Motor Friday I am sharing a messy Play Dough Sensory Mud activity that kids will love playing with outside!

To set up this fun Play Dough Sensory Mud activity you’ll need to clean out your play dough containers of all the old, dried up play dough and grab some things from the kitchen!
Supplies:
- Old, dry-ish Play Dough
- Bucket or Bin
- Water Jar
- Potato Masher
- Cups
- Spoons
We used our water table to set up a Play Dough Sensory Mud station! I filled a jar of water and set it on top and put our bucket of old play dough into to make clean up easier! Then Caden filled our bucket of play dough with water!
Have you ever added water to play dough? It becomes a slippery, colorful mud! Caden loved squishing and squeezing the bits of old play dough! It’s a great work out for fine motor muscles!
Using a potato masher with the play dough sensory mud is also a great way to mix up the old play dough and use those fine motor muscles!
Caden had too much fun playing with this Play Dough Sensory Mud! It was a bit messy, but kept him busy for quite a while! Which you know is mom’s favorite part!
