Kids of all ages love playing with play dough! However it is played with, play dough has many developmental benefits! Play dough is wonderful for sensory play! It is also an amazing material for working on fine motor strengthening and skills with kids! In this post I am sharing ten of our favorite play dough fine motor activities!

Count and Smash Play Dough Math Activity – This is a fun & simple play dough activity that incorporates counting and fine motor skills! It is perfect for active preschoolers learning to count!
Play Dough Sensory Mud – This play dough activity really engages the senses. It is also great for fine motor strengthening because it uses old, hard play dough for a really good hand and finger work out!
Invitation to Create Imaginary Friend with Play Dough – This play dough activity was inspired by a wonderful story about friendship, imagination and bravery. Kids will have so much fun creating an imaginary friend using loose parts and play dough!
Play Dough Invitation with Ants – This is another simple invitation to play with play dough and loose parts! You really can’t go wrong when including interesting loose parts with play dough!
Minecraft Fine Motor Activity – This is a simple search and find play dough activity using Minecraft mini figures! It’s great for kids who love Minecraft and those play dough surprise videos on YouTube!
Sugar Cookie Play Dough – I was inspired by a children’s book to set up this simple invitation to make play dough cookies! All the actions (kneading, rolling, using cookies cutters, etc) involved in making cookies whether real or play dough are great for fine motor development!
Fall Play Dough Tree – Set up a simple invitation to create a Fall Play Dough Tree. This is a wonderful fine motor activity for toddlers and preschoolers using play dough and fall themed loose parts!
Sparkling Ocean Play Dough – Make some blue sparkling play dough and set out some ocean figurines to create a simple invitation to play. This is a great activity for kids learn about ocean creatures while working on fine motor skills.
Grape Kool-Aid Scented Play Dough – This play dough activity will really engage the senses! Using moulds and cookie cutters with play dough is a really great way for kids to work on fine motor skills too!
