I am so excited to be joining the Enchanted Homeschooling Mom and many other wonderful bloggers in the 2014-2015 Poppins Book Nook! The Poppins Book Nook is a monthly themed virtual book club for kids ages preschool and up. Each month participants will read a book based on that month’s theme and share crafts and activities that go along with the book on the last Monday of every month. It’s a great way to learn about different topics, build literacy skills and have some fun!
The theme for September’s Poppins Book Nook is “The Wild West”! When I think of the Wild West I immediately think of cowboys! When I came across the book B is for Buckaroo: A Cowboy Alphabet by Gleaves Whitney I knew this would be a great book to read this month and do an activity with!
After reading this book we decided to make cowboy cookies! To make your own cowboy cookies you’ll need the following supplies:
- Tube of sugar cookie dough
- Baking Flour
- Rolling Pin
- Cookie Sheet
- Cookie Cutters
I used my Auntie’s secret recipe, a store bought tube of sugar cookie dough! 😉 But we add more flour to the dough so it isn’t as sticky and we can roll it out and cut with cookie cutters!
I love that the whole family got in on this activity! We had lot of fun making memories and a mess!
Wild West Learning Bundle Giveaway! Every month the Poppins Book Nook group will be offering readers a chance to win a brand new storybook or product that ties in with our theme for the month. This month one lucky cowpoke will strike gold and win a bundle of fun for the theme of the Wild West. This bundle will include a copy of the storybook Westward Ho!: An Activity Guide to the Wild West (Hands-On History) and one Wild West Toob. So mozzy down to the corral for your chance to win today!
