Fun Baked Cotton Ball Activities for Kids

As a preschooler my son loved hands-on, sensory learning activities and destroying things because he’s all boy! Baked cotton ball activities are a fun & simple sensory activity that fits the bill so I created a bunch of activities using them that my son really enjoyed!

To create Baked Cotton Balls you’ll just need a few basic supplies and an oven.

  • Cotton Balls
  • Flour
  • Water
  • Tempera Paint or Food Coloring
  • Baking sheet

Baked Cotton Balls are a fun, creative and hands-on way for preschoolers to learn and practice fine motor skills.

Baked Cotton Ball Activities

It all started with Smashing Moon Rocks. This is an activity I created to go along with a fun Space themed unit. Smashing moon rocks is a fun way for preschoolers to practice fine motor skills & you can also incorporate other learning such as identifying letters and numbers!

Next I created baked cotton ball Easter eggs that my son smashed while reviewing some letters! You could also use baked cotton balls to practice simple math equations!

I also created some baked cotton ball shamrocks for a St. Patrick’s day theme. Using this same method you could also create baked cotton ball flowers for a Spring theme by connected a bunch of cotton balls around a cotton ball in the center.

And Pumpkins to smash are fun for a Halloween or Autumn themed activity.

Baked cotton balls are a wonderfully, open-ended activity that can be just for fun, for sensory development, fine motor development, art or hands-on academic learning!
