At the end of the 2012 Royal Baloo and 3 Dinosaurs challenged readers to do at least 30 minutes of gross motor activities everyday. I accepted this challenge and tried my hardest to come up with new ways to get us moving, but we were only successful two days at being physically active for 30 minutes. I should have read Cassie’s post 30 Days of Moving with Kids. I am very excited to check out the link up and see what other readers did.
A gross motor challenge isn’t all that difficult for an active toddler. Check out all the fun activities we did in one week’s time!
On day one of the challenge we took Caden outside to play in the snow. We dug his sled out of the shed and pulled him around the yard. We also made a pretty pitiful looking snowman. Caden loved walking through the 5 or 6 inches of snow. He had a great time on the sled and helped to build the snowman too!
On day two of the challenge I wanted to try some yoga with Caden. I found some great yoga videos for kids on Netflix and YouTube and gave it a try. On Netflix I found a good yoga program for 7-16 year olds. It is called Shanti Generation: Yoga Skills for Youth Peacemakers. This program seems very gentle and relaxing, with the beginning focusing a lot on breathing. On YouTube I found the Cosmic Kids Yoga channel. Cosmic Kids Yoga is an energetic program geared towards preschoolers. It incorporates stories and yoga poses for a fun experience. Caden was only slightly interested in the videos. I did get him to do some stretches.
What I learned from this experience is that Caden needs more fast paced activities. Caden loves to run around the house, chasing the dog and playing catch or tug-of-war with the dog. Maybe next week I will try some races and any ideas I get from fellow readers!

Aarya also loves all the running and chasing the dog kind of activities. He just is not interested in Yoga. But he would just show me that he can do the poses though ๐ I am sure he enjoyed the outside snow day.
