Happy Holidays! The Christmas season is full of lots of traditions, including songs, making crafts and decorating. One very traditional song heard every year is The 12 Days of Christmas. A group of bloggers and I have joined together to bring you kid-friendly crafts or activities to celebrate each of the 12 Days of Christmas!
I am kicking off the 1st Day of Christmas with an adorable Partridge in a Pear Tree ornament! This craft can be done with young children with a bit of simplifying and preparation. It is also a great craft for older children to create on their own or if just Mom feels like getting crafty!

To create this Partridge in a Pear Tree ornament you’ll need the following supplies:
- Blue (2 shades), brown, green and yellow felt
- 4″ wooden embroidery hoop
- small square of white muslin fabric
- ribbon
- embroidery thread in coordinating colors
- craft glue
- hot glue gun & glue sticks
- a good pair of small fabric scissors
The first step in creating this ornament if to cut out the felt shapes. I used the free 12 Days of Christmas coloring sheets scaled down to 70% and printed from 123 Homeschool 4 Me as my pattern. I pin my pattern directly onto my dark blue felt and cut the whole bird shape out. Then with my light blue felt I carefully cut out the wings. I continued in this way, cutting out all my shapes with felt. Then I positioned them on the muslin how I liked them, and carefully glued them down with craft glue. I used a paint brush to paint the glue on in some spots to avoid any lumps. Wait for the glue to dry, tie on a ribbon and young crafters have created a beautiful ornament for the tree!
Older children or adult crafters may choose to sew down their felt pieces with thin strands of embroidery thread. Pulling one strand from my thread I sewed around my felt pieces using a simple back-stitch. You can find a simple tutorial at Sublime Stitching.
Once all my felt pieces were sewn down, I hot glued ribbon around my embroidery hoop, added a bow and a loop to hang it on the tree for a finished look! Ta-da!
