Farm Animal Math Game Supplies and Set Up

How to Prep:

To prepare this activity an adult will need to make and/or set up craft stick farm fencing. Check out our Big Red Barn Literacy Activity to see how to make the farm fencing. To set up the fencing use little pieces of play dough to stand  six or more fences to make a rectangle or hexagon.

Then set out at least twelve farm animal rainbow counters and a two dice before inviting children to play and learn!

Farm Animals Hands-on Math Game for learning addition or subtraction

How to Play:

The object of this activity is to show preschoolers or kindergarteners how to add numbers in a hands-on way. To play this game is really simple, children will roll the two dice and count out the numbers using the farm animal counters. Then place the farm animals into the fence. Next the child will count all the farm animal counters together so they understand that adding the two numbers rolled gives them a new number.

After playing with this addition activity, young children will also love playing with the fences and farm animal counters to create their own farm small world scene.

Literature Extension

Books are a great way to extend the activity by learning more about apples! Here are some great children’s literature to incorporate into this activity!
