‘About Me’ Science Activity Book Review and Giveaway

Welcome to the Saturday Science Blog Hop & Link Up co-hosted by Little Bins for Little Hands, Lemon Lime Adventures, Suzy Homeschooler, The Joys of Boys, The Usual Mayhem and yours truly.

Today’s Saturday Science post is a little different. I was given two copies (one for my review and one to give away) of ‘About Me’ from Our Time to Learn as compensation for an honest review. The following thoughts and opinions are my own.

'About Me' Science Activity Book Review & Giveaway | Stir the Wonder

The ‘About Me’ Activity Book from Our Time to Learn is a well-organized guide for parents, teachers or caretakers of children ages four to six. The book includes 18 lessons about the human body, each with three to six activities, discussion guide and book suggestions.

I really appreciated the open and go aspect of this book. The activities are well thought out with a supplies list of everyday items and regular craft supplies. Plus step by step directions including full color photos. And the discussion part of each lesson is short and sweet, perfect for young children who just want to jump in and do an activity!

As part of our review we chose and activity to do to give you a better idea of what is in the book. Since it is almost Halloween we chose to do an activity from Lesson 6 on Bones. I was quite surprised with how interested Caden was in doing this activity and how much he actually learned from it too!

I quickly read the discussion paragraph and talked with Caden about how our bones are hard and that the places where we can bend our arms and legs are called joints. And then we got busy creating our own skeleton hand as we like to call it.

This simple craft really reinforced our short discussion about bones and how skin covers our bones. And there are other hand crafts that we can make to learn about other parts of our bodies. I really like how the lessons build on each other so children can learn how all the parts of the body are interconnected.

In addition to crafts and other hands-on activities, this book also includes some stickers and sticker pages as well as some worksheets which help reinforce the concepts in the lessons.
