Invitation to Draw with Crayons at an Easel
Supplies:
How to Set Up:
- Set up the art easel in a well lit area. We love playing and creating in natural light, so I moved our art easel to our play area near the sliding glass doors!
- Attach some fresh, blank white easel paper. You may need some tape to hold the paper in place.
- Add some crayons to the art supply tray, and invite the kids to get creative!
Caden first drew this scribble art with a purple crayon. Then later in the day he enjoyed some prompted, imaginative drawing time with Dad.
Sometimes Caden is so busy doing other activities that he needs a little prompting to sit down for a creative activity. This afternoon, Dad suggested they draw some characters from their new favorite computer game (LEGO Lord of the Rings).
Caden really enjoyed drawing the different characters and adding little details, like their accessories! And encouragement from Dad is really what he needed to get creative with his crayon drawings!
Process Art Challenge
The Process Art Challenge was started to challenge parents to provide different art materials to their children for free creative exploration. Process Art is about the process and not about the product.

I love this. Our Easel was one of our most used craft items.

Yes! That vertical drawing is such a great experience!!
Adventures of Adam says
Easels used to be a staple resource that everyone owned when I was younger. Every art activity at preschool we did was on an easel. I have to hold up my hand and say I don’t think my son has used one yet. Must find one! Clipped and pinned.

I just read that vertical writing has a lot of benefits for young kids, aside from it being really fun for them 🙂
