Sensory Play with Colored Ice Cubes
During the month of January, Cathy from Nurture Store is hosting a Simple Play : Complex Learning series during which each day has a simple play theme. On day 2 of the series the theme was ice play and Caden had a great time playing with simple colored ice cubes!ย I prepared the night before by filling a basic ice cube tray with water and drops of food dye and placing it in the freezer. The next day the colorful ice cubes were ready to be played with.
During our open play session with these colorful ice cubes we came up with many ways to play! First we tried to use the ice cubes to paint on an easel. This didn’t work very well as the ice cubes didn’t melt fast enough to put color on the paper.ย
So we quickly switched locations and moved to the kitchen table where I set up a sheet of large paper on the table. It was much easier to paint with the ice cubes while at the table.
Other fun ways to play with ice cubes include stacking…
And sorting one by one into a muffin tray…
And building shapes using ice cubes!
And did you know colored ice cubes have a smell???

He looks like he had fun with the ice cubes! I’m always nervous about using food coloring because of stain potential but it sure does look tempting to try! ๐
Super cute! I love the colored ice cube play and definitely the smell!
I remember doing colored ice when daughter was younger, but it’s fun for any age.
Looks like so much fun! And the colors are so rich and vibrant!
Thanks for linking up to TGIF. Hope to see you linked up again later today!
Have a GREAT weekend,
Beth =)
I love messy science experiments and art work! Well… not really but my girls really do and it’s definitely essential for them ๐ This is such a fun hands activity that we will definitely have to try!
