Busy bags are a great way to bring along a quiet activity when heading to the doctor’s office, going to a restaurant or even on a road trip! This month I’m joining some wonderful preschool bloggers to share some themed busy bags for preschoolers. This month’s theme is snowman. These snowman busy bag activities should keep your preschoolers happy, engaged and quiet all winter long!
Snowman Fine Motor Busy Bag
This month I’m sharing a simple snowman fine motor busy bag. Your preschoolers will have fun dressing up this adorable snowman while working on fine motor skills! I’ve kept my busy bag simple, but you can get as creative as you like with yours! Let’s get started!
Supplies
- craft foam in variety of colors
- buttons
- wood clothespins
- self-adhesive velcro
- hot glue gun and glue sticks
- optional: googly eyes, embellishments
Step One: Create the Snowman Body
Using white craft foam and a pencil draw a snowman’s body. If you aren’t comfortable drawing circles use a small bowl for the head and a slightly larger small bowl to draw the body. (Optional: If you want your snowman’s body to be a little stiffer, glue craft foam to some poster board using hot glue before cutting out the body. A stiffer body will be easier for little hands to work with.)
Step Two: Adding Eyes, Nose and Buttons
The next steps is to figure out the placement for the eyes, nose and buttons. Using self-adhesive velcro stick the loop side of the velcro to the snowman’s face where you want the eyes and nose. Then stick the hook side of the velcro to the buttons for the eyes and nose. Do the same for the buttons down the front of the snowman’s body.
Step Three: Creating Snowman Accessories
The last step in creating a snowman fine motor busy bag is to make some accessories and a smile! Using craft foam draw and cut out a smile, a hat, a scarf, and some twig arms! But you don’t have to stop there, you can get as creative as you wish! Once you have your accessories cut out, glue them to some wood clothespins using hot glue. For the mouth use self-adhesive velcro.
Step Four: Store and Play
Now that you have your Snowman and accessories created, you can store them in a gallon sized ziplock bag. A ziplock bag is an affordable and portable way to store any busy bag! You can bring it with you anywhere you need to go and keep your little one quietly entertained.
My son enjoyed playing with this Snowman Fine Motor Busy Bag, just like he enjoyed playing with the Fine Motor Space Alien Busy Bag! It’s a fun way for preschoolers to practice fine motor skills, including the pincer grasp which is needed for handwriting and hand-eye coordination!
