This is a special guest post by my chicken-obsessed mom.
Did you know chickens needed toys? I certainly wouldn’t have thought so. But chickens do not like the cold snow and end up staying inside a lot of the time. Getting toys for your chickens will keep them from getting bored and keep them happy all winter long.
I’m new to raising Chickens and have grown to love them. I love watching them grow, free range and investigate things! I also love seeing all those fluffy butt feathers come in.
In the fall I started to give them some treats, like apples and they went crazy with eating them.
As the weather became colder I was concerned about them staying warm, but was also worried about them being bored from staying in the coop due to the frigid cold and snow.
So I thought, I’d get my chickens some toys to keep them happy!
7 Toys to Keep Your Chickens Happy
Chicken Xylophone– Every chicken needs a musical instrument, right?! I had too much fun showing them how to use the xylophone! No, not with my nose but with a stick. They were very interested in the sounds it was making and seemed to like the bell in particular. Maybe the pretty colors too, but I’m not sure they can see them.
Hanging Feeder– They couldn’t wait for me to get the hanging feeder up! They could already see the bright, red apple and wanted to get at it! That apple didn’t have a chance!! Lol
Chicken Swing– At first, the chickens were curious about the swing and pecked at it, but none were brave enough to try it! Hopefully, in time they’ll get up on there and enjoy it!
4 More Fun Chicken Toys
Here are a four more ideas for fun toys for chickens that I want to get them next!
A mirror, because, well everyone needs one, right?! Something that’s shiny and says, “Don’t you look pretty or handsome today”!
A chicken bridge so they can get from here to there or just climb around and perch on.
This shredder toy will give the chickens something interesting to peck at on snowy winter days.
This treat ball would make it so easy to give chickens a variety of treats, veggies and table scraps without making a mess of their coop or chicken run.
That’s 7 fun toys to keep chickens happy during the winter! If any of you chicken loving mamas think of anything they just can’t live without, please drop me a comment and I’ll look into it!
Keep on Clucking and stay tuned for more farm inspired posts!!
