Happy Fine Motor Friday! My co-hosts (Lalymom, Craftulate, School Time Snippets, Little Bins for Little Hands, P is for Preschooler, Racheous, Still Playing School, House of Burke and Powerful Mothering) and I are excited to share fun activities for toddlers and preschoolers that help build fine motor skills every Friday. At the end of this post you will find links for more great fine motor activities from my co-hosts. Be sure to check them out!
I picked up a couple of packages of these cute foam shamrocks from The Dollar Tree a few weeks ago. I thought it would be fun for Caden to work on his fine motor skills and make a festive shamrock garland for St. Patrick’s Day!
First I had Caden try to use a hole puncher to punch two holes in the top of each foam shamrock. Caden really enjoyed using this tool which is new to him. And he was strengthening his fine motor muscles along the way!
Next Caden tried using the three-hole puncher to punch some holes in the foam shamrocks. Caden really enjoyed using this little gadget! After Caden punched holes in enough shamrocks, we went about stringing them up!
This was the first time Caden laced string through something other than a bead. He did pretty well threading the yarn through the two holes of the shamrocks, although his attention span wasn’t long enough to finish the project.
I love how this shamrock garland looks hanging from our mantle, flaws and all, mostly because Caden and I made it together.
Happy Fine Motor Friday!

This is such a cute idea Samantha! I think we might just have to try to make our own garland tomorrow so that we can hang up for next week!
