Summertime is finally here! This week has been hot and humid so I thought a fun ice activity would be the perfect way to cool off! Alphabet Ice Cube Sensory Play is a simple sensory play idea that is great for preschoolers and older kids!

Supplies
- Ice Cube Trays
- Muffin Pan
- Alphabet Beads
- Water
- Freezer
To prepare this activity is so simple. Place one alphabet bead in each section of your ice cube trays or muffin pan. Then fill it with water and place it in your freezer until it is completely frozen. Once they are frozen you can empty it into a bin and take them outside for some fun summer sensory play and learning!
We took ours out on our back deck for Caden to explore! While he freely explored the alphabet ice cubes with his senses, I pointed out the different letters and did a simple assessment of his alphabet recognition and sound knowledge.
We also did some simple science experiments. Caden tried several ways to melt the ice cubes. One way was by licking and cracking the ice cubes with his teeth! He was also told to be very careful not to swallow any letter beads. We also tried holding the ice cubes in our hands to melt them and placing the bin in the sun!
Caden also used his tools to break up the ice cubes! He enjoyed hammering and whacking the ice cubes with different tools to see what worked best!
